What GenTidy for Mac does
1. A menu bar AI image generator, one shortcut away
GenTidy sits in your menu bar. Summon GenTidy from any app with one shortcut (⌘P by default, remappable). You can pause the shortcut or turn it off for specific apps, and because ⌘P is also the usual Print shortcut, you can move it to another key if you print often.
- Bring your idea with you. Selected text, or an image selected in Finder, comes into the panel as your starting point. If an app doesn't expose its selection, paste or drag the content in.
- Text to image. Reference images and follow-up edits through local Codex are in testing, and depend on your Codex version.
- 5-second videos too. In the Mac app you can also generate 5-second videos with Seedance, and once saved they're managed in the library alongside your images. (Mac public build coming soon.)
- Pin the panel while you work, and get a notification when a job finishes so you can keep going in another app.
2. One AI image manager for images, prompts and versions
GenTidy keeps the context attached to every image:
- Every result is saved with its prompt, model and version, so you can go back to any earlier take. Imported images may not include full generation details.
- A dedicated generation library: search by name, filter by date, reveal files in Finder, and move selected drafts to the macOS Trash.
GenTidy is about finding and reusing your work. It does not deduplicate or clean files automatically.
3. 165 layouts and 305 style references
Good prompts are hard to write from scratch, so GenTidy ships with a library you can combine:
- 165 layouts in five categories: comic storyboards (71), infographics (35), ecommerce product images (24), social cards (22) and IP character design (13).
- 305 style references in eight groups, from editorial doodles and picture-book watercolor to Chinese traditional styles (67) and 3D clay.
Pick a layout for structure and a style for the look, then add your subject. You get a usable first draft without becoming a prompt engineer. For the method behind it, read the hand-drawn illustration prompt guide.
Layouts and style references are adapted from handraw-style by yang0 (MIT license, attribution required).
Two ways to power image generation on Mac
| Local Codex | Your own OpenAI-compatible image API | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Public build coming soon | Public build coming soon |
| Best for | People already signed in to the Codex CLI | People who already pay an image API provider |
| Setup | Install and sign in to Codex | Base URL, model name and key |
| Billing | Your Codex account | Your API provider |
| Reference images and edits | In testing | Depends on your provider |
Local Codex
If you already use the Codex CLI on your Mac, GenTidy can generate through it. Codex manages its own sign-in, and GenTidy never reads its token. Usage is billed to your Codex account, not to GenTidy. Reference images and follow-up edits through Codex are in testing.
Your own OpenAI-compatible image API
Connect an OpenAI-compatible image API: enter the base URL, model name and key.
- Your key is stored in the macOS Keychain.
- Requests go from your Mac to your provider over HTTPS.
- Aspect ratio is a composition request; the final size follows the provider's response.
- Billing follows your provider's rules. Cancelling a request in GenTidy stops waiting on your Mac, but the provider may still finish and bill the job.
Whichever option you choose, generation sends your prompt and any reference images to the selected model provider. A local app does not mean offline generation.
A GenTidy plan that needs no key of your own is planned; pricing will be announced when checkout opens.
GenTidy on the web
You can already try GenTidy in your browser.
Free, no sign-in needed: browse styles, choose a layout and aspect ratio, compose and copy the full prompt, and download reference images. New to it? Start with the GenTidy guide.
The online studio () needs an email sign-in and credits. Image and video generation records are saved to your account. In the studio, type @ to attach a reference image or Skill. The studio interface is available in English and Chinese.
| Model in the studio | Output | Credits per generation |
|---|---|---|
| Seedream 5.0 Lite | 2K image | 10 |
| Seedance 1.5 Pro | 5-second video, 720p | 80 |
Sharing one account and credit balance between the Mac app and the web studio is coming soon.

Social card (quote layout)
A social media card with a short headline at the top: "Ship small, ship often". Below it, a simple illustration of a paper boat on calm water. Solid background, lots of white space, 4:5.
Product image (ecommerce layout)
Ecommerce hero image for a matte black ceramic pour-over coffee dripper. Product centered and clearly visible, soft morning light, light wood table, keep the product photorealistic, 1:1.
More prompt patterns are in the hand-drawn illustration prompt guide (中文版).
Who GenTidy for Mac is for
- Writers and newsletter authors who need a header or diagram for every post.
- Social media creators who make cards and carousels every day.
- Small ecommerce sellers who need product, detail and lifestyle images.
- AI power users who switch between tools and keep losing track of prompts.
If you mainly need to organize a large library of design references collected from the web, a dedicated asset manager such as Eagle may suit you better. See how the two compare in GenTidy vs Eagle.
