GenTidy

Eagle alternative for AI images: GenTidy vs Eagle

If you mostly collect and organize design references, Eagle is the stronger choice. It is a mature, one-time-purchase asset manager for Mac and Windows. If you mostly create AI images and want each one saved with its prompt and versions, the GenTidy Mac app fits better. It generates images from your Mac menu bar and keeps the prompt and versions with every result. Many creators can reasonably use both.

This page compares the two tools on five points: management, AI generation, prompt history, price and platform. Eagle details come from Eagle's official website. Last checked: 2026-10-27. Sources are listed at the end.

Where Eagle is stronger

Eagle has been built around one job: saving and finding visual references. On that job it does far more than GenTidy, and you should weigh this honestly.

Eagle says on its blog that Eagle 5 is in development. The current version listed on its homepage is Eagle 4.0 Build 23.

Where GenTidy is different

GenTidy starts from the other end: making AI images. Organization is built around what you generate.

Comparison in detail

Management

Eagle is a general asset library. It is designed to hold tens of thousands of files from many sources and find them fast with tags, smart folders, color and AI search.

GenTidy's library holds what you create in GenTidy. You can search it by name, filter by date, reveal files in Finder and move drafts to the macOS Trash. You can also bring existing images back in as references. If your library is mostly downloaded inspiration, Eagle is the better fit.

AI generation

Eagle's official site describes AI features for finding and organizing assets: AI Search, AI Action and the AI Models configuration hub. As of Oct 2026, Eagle's official site does not list built-in text-to-image.

GenTidy is built for generation: text to image, with reference images and follow-up edits depending on the channel and Codex version. In the Mac app, results are saved straight to your library.

Prompt history

For AI creators this is the deciding difference. As of Oct 2026, Eagle's official site does not list automatic prompt-and-version history; you can store a prompt in an image's notes or annotation yourself.

In the GenTidy Mac app, the prompt, model and version are saved automatically with every generation, and you can return to an earlier version to keep iterating.

Eagle's one-time price is easy to beat on cost only if you never generate images. Generating images always costs money somewhere: either your model provider bills you, or you pay for credits.

Platform

Eagle runs on macOS 10.15 or later and Windows 10 or later. GenTidy is a Mac app (public build coming soon) plus a web studio that runs in any modern browser.

Who should choose which

Choose Eagle if you:

Choose GenTidy if you:

Use both if you generate in GenTidy and keep a wider reference library in Eagle. In the Mac app, GenTidy can reveal any result in Finder, so you can drag finished images into Eagle.

Using GenTidy alongside Eagle

You don't have to pick one. Use the GenTidy Mac app to generate new images, where each result is saved with the prompt, model and version that made it. Keep using Eagle to manage the assets you already have.
